East Jefferson Fire Rescue is located on the eastern side of the Olympic Peninsula in western Washington state. In 2004 several small area departments consolidated to create our current larger and growing organization. East Jefferson Fire Rescue employs 22 career firefighters with 9 of those certified as Paramedics.  Additionally nine residents and over 40 volunteers supplement the career staff.  Equipped with six engines, four tenders, seven ambulances, two utility vehicles, two brush trucks and five staff vehicles, the department responded to 3,314 calls in 2008. Today, the district covers the incorporated city of Port Townsend and the unincorporated Jefferson County communities of Cape George, Chimacum, Irondale, Kala Point, Marrowstone Island and Port Hadlock, Washington.

We respond to a wide variety of emergencies ranging from Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support medical calls to multiple vehicle accidents and commercial structure fires.  In late 2007, the District entered into a contract with Jefferson General Hospital to transport patients from that facility to Bremerton, Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia and Everett, Washington hospitals. The District averages approximately 30-40 transfers per month.

Our Marine program consists of a highly trained team of rescue swimmers, operators and marine trained EMT's and Paramedics.  East Jefferson is surrounded by frigid Pacific water on three sides and we have many boat assists, man overboard and aid calls on boats moored in our local ports.  Our boat, the Volunteer, is moored in the Port of Port Townsend.
