Board of Commissioners

 

East Jefferson Fire Rescue has three elected fire commissioners.  The current members include Rich Stapf, Jr., Jess Bondurant and Zane Wyll.    Scroll down for their biographies.

Jess Bondurant, Jr.

Commissioner Bondurant, Jr. was born in Yakima, WA.  He moved to Port Angeles in 1955 before relocating to Port Townsend six years later.

He began a 37 year career with Port Townsend Paper Company in 1961, retiring in 1998.  He started as an apprentice millwright before obtaining subsequent positions as a maintenance troubleshooter, michanic, millwright foreman, pipefitter/welder and finally supervisor.

For many years, Mr. Bondurant, Jr. also managed a cattle ranch on Egg & I Road, before moving to Kala Point, where he currently resides.

Mr. Bondurant, Jr. was initially appointe Fire Commissioner for District 1 in 1992 and is currently in his 19th year.

He and his wife Pat have been married for 48 years and have three children.

Zane Wyll

 A ‘true Pacific Northwest native,’ Commissioner Wyll was born in Seattle.  Mr. Wyll states  that Seattle General Hospital was torn down shortly after his birth.  Any correlation between the two events was undetermined.

After attending Everett Junior College for several years, Mr. Wyll entered the residential and commercial construction industry.

Mr. Wyll joined the Seattle Fire Department in 1968, where he enjoyed a thirteen year career as a Firefighter/Paramedic.

 

Mr. Wyll moved to Port Townsend in 1987, settling in Cape George Colony.  In the mid 2000s, Mr. Wyll became the Manager of Cape George Colony Homeowner’s Association, serving for several years.

Originally appointed as Fire Commissioner in District 6 in 2001, Mr. Wyll joined District 1 when the two districts merged.  He is now in his tenth year as a Fire Commissioner.

An avid fisherman, Mr. Wyll and five friends purchased a house on the west coast of Vancouver Island about eight years ago.  He enjoys traveling there to fish for several weeks out of the year.
