HELPING OTHERS

The members of East Jefferson Fire Rescue believe that serving the community goes beyond firefighting and EMS activities. Both our volunteer and career staff  participate in many different fundraising activities and charitable organizations.

Many members stand in front of grocery stores and in intersections collecting money in their boots every year on the first Saturday in October.

In 2006, the major acheivements of the Northwest Burn Foundation included:
Distributing 15, 616 Scald Prevention kits to families in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana & Alaska
Sponsoring 72 burn survivors, agers 7-17, to attend a week-long summer camp
Assisting families with emergency housing for loved ones at Harborview's Burn Center
Sponsoring family outings and special events for burn survivors
Helping to raise awareness about corrective cosmetic consultation to help diminish the appearance of scars
Providing direct aid to individuals and families coping with the financial burdens associated with surviving serious burns and fires

The Northwest Burn Foundation was able to offer all programs and services free of charge because of generous donors during the 2007 drive

Helping Local Families in Need

In December, the EJFR Firefighter's Association picks several local families to help with Christmas gifts and groceries.  Our members travel around town in a special tractor drawn wagon to sing carols and deliver stuffed animals to children throughout our community.

Raising Money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

EJFR members participate in the Scott's Firefighter Stair Climb held yearly at the Columbia Tower in Seattle.  Firefighter's climb 69 stories in full combat gear and SCBA to reach the top of the 2nd highest building west of the Mississippi.  This event is the largest individual firefighter competition in the world with over 1,300 firefighters from 200 departments participating.  Last year, firefighter's from our department raised nearly $5,000 for blood cancer research, education and patient services.  This year's climb was held on March 2, 2008.

THE FUNDRAISING BY THE FIREFIGHTERS' HELPERS MEETS MANY NEEDS!

Every April and October the Helpers host a deliciious, pancake breakfast. With the earnings from these breakfasts the group has donated thousands of dollars for needed emergency response equipment and educational materials.

The Helpers also help host memorials for fire department "family" members.
